MARTINI: Made especially for the connoisseur with premium gin or premium vodka. Before bridges spanned the bay, a ferry ran from San Francisco to Martinez. One gent used to stop at the Ferry Building Bar and order his favorite drink: gin and vermouth, chilled and strained into a big wine glass. “Quick!” he'd say. “I gotta get to Martinez.” Somehow “Martinez” became “Martini.”

MANHATTAN: Maker's Mark bourbon and Cinzano Sweet vermouth. Try Johnnie Walker Black Scotch for our Rob Roy. The Manhattan was created for Lady Jenny Churchill, a Brooklyn-born woman who married Lord Randolph and gave birth to Winston. First served at the Manhattan Club in New York at a banquet given by Lady Jenny in honor of Samuel J. Tilden, the famous lawyer who prosecuted the corrupt politicians known as the Tweed Ring.

MARGARITA: No pre-mix shortcuts here. We hand-shake Sausa Conmemorativo Tequila, triple sec and fresh-squeezed limejuice. The Margarita is named for Marjorie King, a Hollywood actress. In 1938 at the Rancho del Gloria Bar in Rosa Rita beach, bartender Danny Herrera poured tequila over shaved ice and added lemon and triple sec then handed the cocktail to Marjorie. Marjorie's name was translated to Spanish, and the name stuck.

OLD-FASHIONED: A return to tradition with Maker's Mark bourbon, Angostura bitters and a splash of soda. The Old-Fashioned can be traced to Thomas Louis Witcomb, bartender at the Pendennis Club in Louisville, Kentucky. The early recipe called for a mint spring, making the Old-Fashioned similar to the Mint Julep. The newspapers in the 1800s referred to the cocktail as a julep made “the old-fashioned way.”
